We must inspire our children to be creative….
Powerful Purpose Associates are currently working on a series of children’s books that will not only serve to inspire all children but will also focus on inspiring children with pediatric cancer.
Purpee the Purple Dragon is the the main character in our new children’s book series. Purpee will serve to inspire kids around the world and allow children with pediatric cancer to live vicariously through an adventurous purple dragon and his friends.
Powerful Purpose Associates' funding campaign to bring 2,500 books to children with cancer across the US is LIVE, please consider supporting us. Click here for more information or to donate.
Our Story
It all started one night during our bedtime routine of reading books and telling stories to our 3 young kids. I made up a story about a purple dragon named Purpee, and his friends. My kids loved the story and started asking for Purpee stories every night. Each night Purpee seemed to become a little more adventurous.
One night my daughter Brianna had an idea, “Why don’t we turn these stories into a kids book series?”… and building on her inspiration I tried to think of a way we could make these books different from all of the other great children’s books out there, and then it hit me.
We got to work right away. Brianna started writing the manuscript and brainstorming more adventures. Then we started sketching. First Brianna, then me, and then we hired an illustrator to bring our characters to life. The next thing we knew; Purpee the Purple Dragon, Stinky the Skunk, Shelly and Sunny, twin turtles, and Smokey the Dragon were alive……
Our project is to produce the first 2 books in the Purpee the Purple Dragon series and print 2,500 copies to give out to pediatric cancer patients in hospitals across the US – your backing will help us to do this.
This book series will inspire children with cancer allowing them to live through this dragon, making these books different from most other children’s books.
The Project Details
We will read the books to the children and then spend time asking them what adventures they would like to see Purpee and his friends go on next.
What adventures would they go on if they could?
We will encourage their imaginations, collect their ideas, and even have them create some of the scenes, just like my 7-year-old daughter did for the first 2 books.
Then, we will collect the thoughts and pictures and use them to write more books in the series, which will include the names of those children that contributed. These sick children will live through Purpee and his friends…
How You Can Help
Did you know that more than 11,000 young people are diagnosed with cancer every year?? And many of them will spend most of their lives in and out of hospitals lonely and depressed. While Brianna and I can’t cure cancer, we can bring Purpee’s adventures to these children, and then, through the book series, help them to create their own adventures, even if they are in a hospital.
