“If you obey the rules, you will miss all the fun.” In today’s world, you’ve got to think out of the box. Society wants to keep people in boxes…status quo… seeking safety and simple answers. To think big picture, you need to give them permission to go a different way, to break new ground, to find new worlds to conquer.

So what is the most effective way to expose them to new paradigms. One way is to read on new subjects. Be naturally curious and love to learn. Another way is to travel to new places. Explore other cultures, countries, and traditions. Field trips provide a great opportunity for exposure.

At an Aquarium, students can act like scientists to observe marine life while focusing on habitat, survival, and defense mechanisms. Go to a Space Center and think like an astronaut and complete a mission to Mars. Act like plant hunters to observe plant life at the botanical garden. At the Amusement Park, have students design their own ride and incorporate physics, math and technology. Be farmers and explore the process of growing/raising, packaging, and transporting food. Become historical detectives at one of the historical sites, find clues of the past and what was left behind. Even at a jump bounce arena, students can explore how something works and apply the use of mathematics and science to make the experience even better. You can apply STEM specific topics at museums, planetariums, laboratories, observatories, zoos, and the beach.

Remember, class trips are often one of the most memorable experiences of a student’s early school, middle or high school career. Students are able to form lifelong bonds with their classmates, while seeing some of the most incredible landmarks and attractions.
