The Planet Earth Challenge
Fun & Entertaining STEM Meteorology Program for Kids
The Planet Earth Challenge is an hour-long program taught by a team of Meteorologists. We use a series of fun and engaging visuals to teach the basics of weather and environmental science. The Planet Earth Challenge has visited over 400 venues including schools, camps, museums, and more. It was created by Meteorologist Rob Guariano in the early 1990s and has been a hit ever since. This program is most effective for kids ranging from 5 to 11 years old, but can also be performed for older age groups as well.
The program is not only informative but extremely interactive. During this “power hour” of fun, kids come up to the board and answer weather/environmental questions to earn points for their team. Volunteers will also be given prizes for their participation. We tell parents, principals, and camp counselors that the best way to describe this program is “Nickelodeon Meets Weather.”
The Planet Earth Challenge has mastered the balance of science and excitement. We truly embrace the fact that some of these students could potentially be our next scientists, so it’s important to inspire them at an early age. We hope that The Planet Earth Challenge can continue promoting a clean and safe environment to our younger generation.
